3 way calls are the real secret to building a network marketing team

by jordan on August 22, 2011

I used to believe that if I couldn’t get someone to commit to joining my team after a single phone call from myself, then they weren’t interested and to stop the process right there.  It wasn’t until about 8 months ago that I realized that people don’t generally signup on their first exposure.  This is just 1 of the reasons why 3-way calls are essential to building a team.  This is just 1 of my many prospecting tips.

There are other reasons as well which I’m about to cover.  The bottom line is people in general have a tough time making a quick decision about joining a network marketing company and spending $300-$500 after just 1 exposure and having only talked to 1 person.  This is where the 3-way call comes in, because a 3-way call is actually another exposure to the team, the opportunity, and the possibility of joining the company.

My favorite reason for 3-way calls is actually something entirely different.  Think about what a prospect is thinking when you’re presenting the opportunity to them, and they’re seeing themselves doing the same thing in their mind.  If you present the  entire opportunity, you’re the only 1 talking to them through the prospecting process, and you’re answering all of their questions on your own, well then they feel they’re going to have to do everything on their own as well.

If on the other hand you simply get your prospect to agree to watch a presentation of some form, then you follow up with them to see what they liked best about it… and when they start asking a lot of questions you say something like, “these are great questions, honestly I don’t know the answers to all of them but my team leader does, and we could get on the phone with him later today to chat for about 10 minutes… how does that sound?”

Instantly you’re letting the prospect know that when they join your team that they’ll have support, and they don’t have to know the answers to everything to build a successful business.  Now this person will also realize just how easy it is to build a team after you do the leg work of generating leads and getting them on a presentation.

So if you’re brand new to your company, then it’s essential for you to be using 3-way calls as part of the signup process.  Once you get a little more settled and successful in the company you will still do 3-way calls, but not as often.

I remember when I got started in Numis, and I literally didn’t know anything about the company.  So I just got prospects onto the presentation by telling them how excited I was about the opportunity, and how lucrative it was, then when they would ask me questions I would tell them I didn’t know the answers.  I had between 15-20 3-way calls with my sponsor Adam Chandler in my first 2 weeks in the company.

Even up through the 3rd month I still didn’t understand everything about the company or the compensation plan.  This just illustrates my final point.  You don’t have to know everything about the company you’re in to sign team members up.  You simply have to believe in the leadership of the company you’re with, like the product that you’re selling, and let your sponsor or upline be the know-it-all that you get on the phone with your prospects.

Honestly, if you’re struggling with signing people up into your business on your own, and your upline doesn’t do 3-way calls with you, then you should do 1 of 2 things.  Find someone in your company who will help you or find yourself a new team in a new company that will help you.  That’s exactly what I did.

I’ll admit 3 way calls are something I need to do more of, in what other industry can you have access to a 6 or 7 figure earner who can possibly close sales for you, not many.

You’re absolutely Right Tyronne… it also shows your mentor that you’re taking action even if you’re not immediately getting signups, and they’re more willing to continue to help you because you’re taking action.
