People often ask me if Betternetworker is a good place to spend their time marketing to get exposure for their mlm business.

So without further ado, I’m just going to let the interview do it’s dirty work!

Typically when people bring their business online they tend to get overwhelmed and not really get a lot done.  If you’re facing this problem right now, you’re not the only one.  So today I’ve decided to clear this up for you.

The truth of the matter is that it’s really easy to get overwhelmed when we’re learning something as big and broad as internet marketing.  It’s very easy to get stuck in consumption mode where we’re just learning information constantly and never putting anything into action.  Then after months or even years online we’ve learned $10,000 worth of information and have nothing to show for it.  If this sounds like you, TAKE A DEEP BREATH NOW, and…

…LET IT GO!

So what’s the key to overcoming feeling overwhelmed when marketing an mlm business online?

The key is taking action.  When you learn something that seems like it will work good for you, put it into immediate action and realize that it’s probably not going to work exactly as it does for the person who’s showing it to you, but when you STICK WITH IT and continue to tweak what you’re doing it will work better over time.  Don’t just take action either, take MASSIVE ACTION!  When you learn something, put it into massive action so that you’ll see some noticeable results and have enough action to test and tweak.

Let me explain this in a slightly different way that 1 of my mentors taught me… you see most people are like funnels… consuming information in the big top end, and then dripping out action at the bottom.  No wonder we get overwhelmed and backed up!  What you want to do to get over the overwhelmed feeling is flip that funnel upside down, and consume information through the small bottom end, and blast action out the big end!

So as an example… when you go through a training course that you paid $197 for, what most people do is take notes while they’re going through, and plan to implement all this stuff once they’ve gone through the course and understand what’s going on.  From here on out, know that it’s better to pause the video every 30 seconds or 5minutes or as often as needed so that you can immediately implement what you’re learning and put it into action.  This way, when you make your way through the entire course you’ve actually done what the course is teaching you to do.  Does that make sense?  If not, go back and re-read the past 3 paragraphs again.

Remember, the key is to simply take action 1 step at a time, and have faith that your mentors who are successful are telling you what works even if you don’t quite understand why it’s working.  (if you would have told me 3 years ago, that I’d have people calling me and asking to join my business because they found me online, I would have thought you were nuts, but that happened just this morning when I welcomed my newest team member from Canada)

No Excuses Summit 3 was my 3^rd NES event, and I had quite a few major things happen this time around that absolutely were not happening at the first event I attended.  These led me to my biggest take away from the event about what it truly takes to achieve success in this industry.  Before I get into what I got out of this event, let me share with you where I was 2 years ago when I attended No Excuses Summit 1.

I was actually on the verge of quitting my business just weeks before the event, because I was only making about $1000 a month, and I was spending that much on my business.  I actually couldn’t even afford to go to the event, even though I had my plane ticket and my event ticket.  I had to borrow $500-$700 from my dad and step-mom just to be able to afford a hotel room and food while I was there. 

Then when I got back I realized that I pushed all 3 of my business and personal bank accounts negative while I was there.  The amazing thing was I was only eating about 1 meal per day, because that’s all I could afford.  I even remember seeing someone eat the peanuts in his hotel room without even looking at the price, and I couldn’t believe it, because I knew they were like $14 for the box. 

When I got back from NES1 I had a major breakthrough in my business… I made around $1400 the very next night selling a product of my own.  I went on to have my very first $5000+ month within 2.5 months.  I quit my job less than 3 months after NES1.  Can you believe that I almost decided to quit my business less than 4 months earlier??

So at this No Excuses I saw a lot of new faces.  I saw people who weren’t at the first 1, some that weren’t even at the 2^nd one.  I also realized that there were a lot of people who were at the 1^st NES who were no longer in the industry.  This is when I realized how grateful I was that I didn’t quit just a month before my massive breakthrough happened after NES1. 

You see, MOST PEOPLE give up too soon.  They give up when they’re inches from the bend in the road that’s going to start heading downhill for a little bit.  THAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUCCESS AND FAILURE.  Failure’s give up too soon. 

This event was absolutely amazing for me in a lot of other ways as well.  Adam Chandler and I have setup 3 solid JVs with 2-3 more in the works just from speaking to a few 7 and 8 figure earners while we were at the event.  The reason is because we’re still here.  We didn’t quit when the times got tough. 

Do you want to know our secret?

PASSION!  Imagine for a moment that you’re living the life of your dreams 3-5 years from now.  You don’t have a job so you get to wake up when your body decides.  You get to go on vacation when you want.  You can take days off when you choose.  You’ll never miss a family function, wedding, or anything fun because your boss won’t give you off work.  You get paid for helping people achieve their dreams.  You choose to live where you want because it doesn’t matter where you live as long as you have internet.  You can afford to buy nice things, and do nice things when you want.  You no longer look at the price of food before you order off the menu at a restaurant.  You get to spend time with your kids and watch them grow up (if you have kids)… and you no longer stress about money. 

Now IMAGINE what would happen if someone came along and crushed your dreams after you achieved them.  You have to go back to the life you currently have with all the things that you don’t like about it.  Only worse… you’re further in debt… you haven’t gone on vacation in 7 years now… you’re living where you don’t want to live because of a job that pays too little and you had to take it… and you missed your kids growing up for the past 5 years because you’ve been just too busy working for peanuts.

So why would I tell you not to spend money on training courses to make yourself better?

It’s very simple really… it’s about you, but it’s not about you at the same time.  In fact it’s more “not about you” all of the time.

So think for a moment…  Why would you invest money in training courses if not to make yourself better at what you do?

You invest in training courses, seminars, audios, books, private coaching with successful people to become a better leader for your team so that your team can become better.

Let me repeat that… you invest in yourself so that your team can become stronger.

The more you know, the greater you are, the better marketer you become… the more you’ll be able to coach and mentor your team and help them make more money.

So although you are investing in yourself, you’re not doing it just for you.

You’re doing it for your team members and future team members; because when you’re able to coach and mentor your team with the new skill sets you’ve learned you’re going to be able to help them make more money.  When your team members are making money, they’ll continue to be your team members.  The more you can help them the longer they’ll stick around. 

So from here on out, when you’re looking at investing any money into a training course, private coaching, a live event, basically anything that will help you become more knowledgeable and valuable… Start to ask “How will this help my team members or future team members” and if you come to the conclusion that by you learning something will help your team, then pay the money to invest in yourself and your team.

Have you ever had prospects who were interested in your company, but that’s where it stopped?  For whatever reasons, is it seemingly difficult to actually get people to pull the trigger and pay money to join your team?

I used to struggle with this, until I learned what I’m about to teach you today, then signing team members up became a whole lot easier.  In fact I’ve since become 1 of the top recruiters in my primary company as well as MLSP!

Today I’m going to share some insights and strategies with you on how to actually get your prospects to pull out their credit card and join your team.  I’m going to teach you how to lead your prospects right into joining your team.

First I’m going to share some insights about what your prospects are most likely looking for in a business to join.

-          They’re looking for a leader to follow

-          They’re looking for someone who will actually coach them

-          They’re looking for a team to be a part of

-          They’re looking for an action taker to follow

-          They’re looking for someone who’s confident

-          They’re also looking for a product that they can stand behind and make good money with

Notice that the product and comp plan come last.  I’m not saying it’s unimportant, but what I’m saying is that your prospects want someone who they feel is going to push them, make them uncomfortable, challenge them, and lead them towards success.  So if they like the product and the comp plan for your company that’s just the beginning.  Then it’s all about YOU!

This is why I always start the conversation with the posture of a coach or mentor verses someone who’s trying to make a sale.  When someone is looking to join your team, you will be their coach or mentor and not just a salesman.

So when you’re on the phone with your prospect or right there in person, you must be willing to tell them what to do.  After they’ve seen a presentation and they tell you what they like about your company it’s ok to say something like “it sounds to me like you’re ready to get started, signup takes about 5 minutes, are you in front of your computer?”   (Make sure that they actually like your company.  Because if they say, “it seems ok, I kind of like it” then you wouldn’t be able to say what I just taught you)

When speaking to your prospects they will probably have objections like “It looks great, I think I can make a lot of money with this, I’ll join next week or next month”  you have to be able to coach them right there to show them your leadership.  This is a place where most people fall off.  I used to just schedule a followup appointment for a month out with a prospect.  I’ve found what works best in this situation is permission based mentoring. 

Permission based mentoring is when your prospect gives you an objection, you ask them if you can coach them or share some insight with them.  When they agree they are more open to hearing what you’re going to share with them and they will be more likely to actually soak in the information and accept what you’re saying.  What most do is just begin to deflect and disagree with the prospect and that turns them off.  However when they agree to let you mentor them, they are agreeing that you’re their coach.

So when a prospect says something like “It looks great, I think I can make a lot of money with this, I’ll join next week or next month” you must immediately say “ok, can I share some insight with you on this?”    When they agree, you can say something like

“If it seems great to you right now, it doesn’t make sense that you would wait a month to join, because what you’ll be doing is setting yourself up for a whole lot of prospects in the future who will also take a long time to pull the trigger and take action, and you won’t be able to tell them that you took immediate action when you saw this great opportunity because you have integrity.  However, when you join now and begin building your immediate action muscle just like the most successful entrepreneurs I know have, when your prospects say something similar to you in the future, you’ll be able to share this story with them, and mentor them into building their immediate action muscle as well, because in this industry and in life the people who take immediate action on something they know is good always make the most money.  Does that make sense?”

Your prospect will now see that you’re willing to push them, coach them, and actually be the leader who they can follow.  They’ll also feel that blow to their ego of not being an immediate action taker, and will want to prove themselves. 

Do you see the difference between allowing your prospects to have their objections and not doing anything because that’s what is more comfortable for you verses starting to make it comfortable to actually coach your prospects and maybe make them slightly uncomfortable so they do DECIDE TO TAKE ACTION??  Please leave your thoughts in a comment below!
