Do You Really Want To Buy MLM Genealogy Leads For Your Business

by jordan on June 16, 2010

MLM genealogy leads will do nothing but waste your hard earned time and money.  In fact the only positive use I can think of for buying these old lead lists would be to practice prospecting on the phone and to build up patience for the hundreds of phone numbers that aren’t going to answer.

I don’t mean to sound so harsh or shoot down your hopes if you were truly dreaming of being able to get a ton of leads for very cheap, and build a successful business from it.  So let me tell you a little more about why I feel these leads are terrible, and then at the end I’m going to give you a way to generate quality leads that will actually call you.

First off let me tell you where these leads come from and some of the ways these lists are generated.  These leads are people who at one time or another had shown some type of interest in making money, starting a business, or being an entrepreneur in some way or another.

More than likely when they put in their information somewhere they didn’t know it was going to be sold off someday to strangers.  It’s just as likely that they never subscribed to a list at all, but were gathered unethically.  These leads are sometimes the result of a former network marketer selling his or her old list off to make some extra money.

The biggest thing for you to realize is that these people have no clue who you are.  They didn’t ask to be called by you.  If you leave them a message they probably won’t even call back, and that’s only if you get a real number.

I spoke with a lady the other day who purchased a leads list of 900 people for $200, and out of the 900 numbers, she only ever spoke to 8 people who practically hung up on her.  That’s an awful lot of time spent and money wasted to simply get rejected by the few real people on the list.  At least she said she learned her lesson.

So this brings me to the positives out of buying mlm genealogy leads lists.  As I mentioned you would develop patience and get used to a little bit of rejection.  You would also probably perfect your voicemail message very quickly.

Don’t worry though, because I’m going to teach you how you can generate all the free leads you could ever want or need for your business.  Leads that actually want to speak with you and are interested in your business before you ever mention it.  This way you’ll never have to waste your time or money on mlm genealogy leads lists ever again.

Hi Jordan,

I have never bought leads but I can understand how frustrate that lady must have been. There is a way to attract targeted leads to us ans that is what everybody who is serious about business must learn.

I couldn't agree with you more, Jordan! The roadway to success in MLM is littered with people who got “beat” up attempting to use leads like these and became discouraged and gave up. As Jim Rohn says, “Success lies in the opposite direction of the normal pull”. If a lot of people are using these leads, maybe you want to consider something else!

I have not bought leads as my company does not want us to because they only want quality associates, which they say are not found through buying leads. I can understand why people are tempted to buy them if they feel that they are completely out of new leads. I'm really glad to have learned about personal branding!

Hi Jordan,

I have been tempted to buy leads in the early days but never did as I found out very quickly where these list come from. You can see why some people do it when its dressed up as 1000 leads for your business, very tempting for someone who is new. Great post with lots of valuable information.

I agree with you to an extent Jordan…You do have to be careful and do your homework when acquiring genealogy lists. There are a lot of unscrupulous shysters out there attempting to sell lists that have no “substance” these days. Of course generating your own leads is always the way to go, BUT …you are missing the point if you think that genealogy lists are complete waste of time. With a good source and when worked correctly, genealogy lists can be a HUGE asset as to a true genealogy list is by far the most targeted lead you could ever get (besides generating your own leads of course). Personally my team and I have had great success with genealogy lists …to the tune of 20,000 members strong. Yes, attraction marketing is “where it is at” and where it has always been, but combining attraction marketing and personal branding with a good genealogy lists tends to work wonders … again, when worked correctly. All I am saying is that I wouldn't write them off completely by any means.

Benjamin,

That's pretty amazing to hear that… perhaps you could share some insights as to how to do it correctly and build such a large team???

I used to get tempted a lot… However I never fell prey.

Jordan Schultz June 18, 2010 at 10:26 AM

I can totally understand why people do… they're desperate for any kind of leads… in fact if you absolutely can't generate any leads online… You're probably tempted to do a lot of things to get them.

I love Jim Rohn Quotes Rick. Follow what the man says in that case.

I Honestly don't know that I would have made it through all 900 numbers if 891 of them didn't answer or return my calls… Actually wait… Yes I would have, because that's what's needed to achieve success. Frustration though… Yes.

This is so true. I love generating leads. When I call I already know they have at least seen something of mine. Not someone trying to get a free trinket and put their information in a site.

Great Article, Jordan!

I've actually gotten better responses emailing genealogy lists instead of calling for 2 reasons:

1. People are more willing to change phone numbers than email addresses, for some reason.
2. You can cut to the chase quicker. Instead of having to introduce yourself and prepare for rejection, you simply shoot them an email saying “Hey Bob, I have a quick question. Are you still with company XYZ?” That's kind of oversimplified, but you get the basic idea.

Regardless, generating your own leads is still the way to go. :)

Yes Keysha,

it’s a whole different animal when you get on the phone with people who know your name.

Never thought about that Patrick, but come to think of it, I’ve had the same e-mail address for years.
