…and that’s ok if you are scared, because I was and most other people were as well.  Prospecting is actually something you’ll grow to enjoy a lot more when you’re full-time working from home and you require some people to connect with to maintain your sanity.

The truth of the matter is that you can be absolutely terrible at prospecting as long as you get on the phone, because a majority of people that give you there phone # will actually just be happy that you even called them.  I had a lady tell me that she’s been putting her phone # into opt-in forms online for around 5 years now, and I was the very first person to ever give her a call and connect with her.

I’m sure almost all of you have heard that you must promote yourself as a leader first and foremost, and after you do so, people will follow you and join you and your business.  This brings up quite a few immediate questions I had in my head when I heard this.  What do I teach?  Who do I teach?  How do I teach?  Where do I teach?  Where do I begin?

There’s one simple answer for all of these questions.  The Forums!

FIRST AND FOREMOST, READ THE RULES OF EACH INDIVIDUAL FORUM BEFORE YOU START POSTING!!!!! I CAN’T STRESS THAT ENOUGH!

Do not spam the forums! Don’t pitch your products even if they’re great training products.  Your main goal in the forums is to educate others so that you’re their leader.

While you’re on the forums, you’ll be learning from and sharing information with a lot of marketers and people who already have a business of their own.  Although you essentially want to get people into your business opportunity, You don’t necessarily want to promote that to marketers upfront.  I would suggest pushing a capture page that promotes some generic marketing information or a generic marketing training product that will promote you as a leader.  If you have a blog, that would be a great place to send traffic.

Most forums don’t allow you to post links inside your forum posts, so you’re going to have to put your link inside your signature which will be attached to every single post you make.  Think if you make 3 posts a day.  That’s putting out 20+ links per week for your blog or capture page site.  As I stressed earlier, don’t post a link to your primary business as most of the people in the forums already have their own business!  It’s a great idea to have an Attraction Marketing system and autoresponder similar to the one I have here: http://www.SecretMLMcode.com , that way people will receive some more quality information from you and continue to see you as a leader.  Another great place to send them would be your Blog!  If you’re sending them to your business capture page, they’ll probably just walk away, and you’ll lose them forever!

Inside the forums, you’ll be able to cover all of the 5 questions we asked at the beginning of this letter.   You’ll be able to meet both leaders and followers, you’ll be able to learn and teach, essentially you will be able to learn what you need to in order to become the leader and then start teaching right away!

If you come across a topic that interests you, but you don’t know how to answer a question, you can do some research on the topic.  Research some articles on a site like http://www.ezinearticles.com , learn the topic for yourself, then go back to the forums and answer the questions yourself.  When you approach the forums this way, not only will you be promoting yourself as a leader, but you’ll also be learning about the topic yourself.  Kill 2 birds with 1 stone!

Like any other marketing strategy, you must be consistent.  If you make a few posts every day in different forums, you’ll have hundreds of your links out there in no time, promoting yourself as a leader and attracting the PERFECT type of person to your sites.  This is GOLDEN!

The biggest thing that any one person has going for them in this business; themselves!  The key to success is definitely going to be originality of promoting yourself and your knowledge!  I’m sure we’ve all been told before that we can literally copy someone’s system exactly and we’ll become rich off of it.  I know I’ve been told that, and I know when I first started I truly believed it as well.  Then I worked my business in that manner for 4 months or so with absolutely no success and I decided to look for another way.  You don’t have to re-create the wheel, but you do have to be yourself.

I love using other people’s systems to make myself money online. They’ve gone through the research, they’ve tested everything out, and they’ve found out exactly what works to achieve success with their systems.   For these reasons I do enjoy the fact that I can copy what they’ve done and achieve success in a fairly short period of time.  I take their concepts, knowledge, and training and utilize them for my business.  I do not copy everything verbatim though.

If you were checking your e-mail inbox, and you saw 15 or so e-mails all from different people with the exact same subject and message, would you really want to look further into any specific person’s e-mail?  That is one of the major problems with so many people today, is that they have no creativity.  I understand it’s much easier to copy and paste, the only problem with that is you will blend in with the crowd.  That is one of the worst possible things you can do.  I’m not telling you to stop using the same system or stop promoting the same company that everyone else is.  These companies are probably really great if they have a lot of people out there promoting them.  The only point here is that you must find a way to establish you from the rest of the network marketing world.

How do you stick out from the crowd?  The best way to stick out, is to be different.  Even if it means that you just change the subject of the e-mail, you’d still be a cut above the rest.  You could even go so far as to rewrite the e-mail in your own words.  This e-mail is just an example, and originality will apply to all aspects of your marketing techniques.

One thing I’ve gotten out of originality besides the results is that I’m becoming the teacher.  When I have to actually sit down and read something and learn it, then go and rewrite it in my own words, I’ve gone through the process of education.  The more I learn, the more helpful I am becoming to others, and I’m growing a larger team at a faster pace because of this.  It is through original content that you will brand yourself as a leader, and not your company or system!
