A Heart Warming Talk With My Father Today Was The Reason I Joined Network Marketing 2 Years Ago

by jordan on March 10, 2011

The reason I joined network marketingWhen I got home today from working out with my brother, running to see the accountant, and stopping at the bank I had a very heart-warming conversation with my father that really made me feel great about what I’ve been doing with my life for the past 2 years.  I’ll tell you what he said to me, but first I want to bring you back to the beginning of my vision a little over 2 years ago.

I was sweating it out in the family restaurant…

After 5 years working in the kitchens of 2 of my family’s restaurants I realized that being a restaurant owner would never allow me the lifestyle I wanted for me and my future wife & kids.  Working nights and weekends wouldn’t have allowed too much free time when the kids would have been off of school, and it really started setting in when I hit the age of 24.

Over the previous 5 years of working in the kitchen I had missed countless of my friends and family’s weddings, birthdays, and special events.  I lost contact with almost all of my friends and had no social life outside of drinking at my own bar every night with some of the customers and employees.  I saw my father about once every month or 3.  Although I was on a path to being a successful restaurant owner, that was all I was on a path to be.

Then a QUANTUM SHIFT occurred in my brain…

the reason I joined network marketingDecember 17th of 2008 my brother Jason had his first son Mason James Schultz, and I IMMEDIATELY knew that I had to change my circumstances dramatically so I too could have a family of my own someday.

Not even 4 weeks later I started my company Schultz Marketing LLC and launched into the online world of network marketing like a deaf, dumb, and blind idiot.  The fact of the matter was all I knew was cooking and running a restaurant.  I had never been in sales, and I had never really developed great skills for communicating with people.

This didn’t concern me, I knew I was destined to be a millionaire, and I was not stopping until I achieved my destiny.

The past 2 years have been a roller-coaster… both financially and emotionally.

I’ve thought about quitting, wondered if I could handle this life, and wondered if I had what it takes.  I’ve taken my bank accounts negative over 75 times, racked up $15k+ in credit card debt, and that’s not including all the money I spent not on credit cards, and I’ve also had over $6000 in my bank account after a good week.

The fact is this is all part of the ride.  This is something that has to be dealt with on my way to the top, and I knew it before I began.

Through it all the dream of freedom has kept me going; the freedom to spend time with my family and friends when I wanted to, the freedom to be able to spend time with my wife and kids when they wanted me to.

So, let me take you back to what my father had to say to me today.  He said “Jordan, I’m so proud of you.  Over the past 2 years I’ve watched your journey with this business and your life, I’ve watched you grow, and I’m so proud that you managed to keep a balance with your business and your personal life.  You’ve always made time for family and friends.  You’ve always made it to family gatherings, birthdays, and even just to hang out.  After all, that’s what really matters in life.”

This brought a few tears to my eyes, because this conversation was the exact reason I got started 26 months ago.  (You can’t see, but I’m tearing up right now thinking about it all) I was sick and tired of not having the time freedom I deserved and that my family and friends deserved of me.

So, here’s what I’m going to leave you with today… some food for thought.  If I, a 24 year old college dropout who worked for less than $10/hour and no money in the bank, can start a business that has allowed me to have the freedom that I desire…  (I’ve spent the last week in bed sick with the flu, and I’ve made more money than I used to make in a month at my job)

WHY NOT YOU???

I can relate somewhat to your post. My parents own 2 Dairy Queen Restrautrants here in Iowa. They have no clue about Network Marketing or what I am beginning to build my life into. I have 3 children. When the last one was born I knew I had to put my heart and soul into Network Marketing so I can stay home to raise them and eventually bring my husband home from the corperate world. As of today, my parents are still telling me to go get a job (I’ve been in Network Marketing since Jan. 2010). I know I can do this and I can hope someday to have that same conversation with my family. Thanks for your story.

Very heart-warming story, Jordan. I can feel your emotion and I got teary-eyed as well. Thank you for sharing this with all of us because it helps remind us why were in this game. It’s all about friends and family and how much you can be there for them.

Thanks again!

Hi Jordan
A talk with the father, is that earthy or prayer
The reason for joining the network marketing is to become my OWN BOSS, although it can be done traditionally you have to deal with employees and other things.

1. Get out of Dept
2. Be able to help family when needed
3. Retire to help other people

Peace and Blessing be unto you

Hi Jordan,
Congratulations on your success to-date Jordan….you have done the hard
part in building the momentum now you can enjoy the ride.

MLM is a fantastic vehicle….but there are pitfalls and part of the challenge
is who you become on the way. Talk soon.
Cheers

That’s nice Jordan, really nice. It’s funny how family and in particular children can be the catalyst. I had always thought about having my own business, but didn’t do anything about it until after I had my children. The world changes for you and I didn’t want them brought up by childminders and the TV! My children are my “why” but the determination is inbuilt in me and I am loving the journey! (Hope you’re feeling better!)

Great stuff Jordan.

I want TOTAL time and financial freedom.

To be able to take my future family on vacations when WE want without having to clear it with my boss first.

To be able to make decisions that are not based on whether I have enough cash in my bank account.

And I want to have a lot of FUN!!!

Hi! Jordan, what an emotional packed post. I can imagine exactly how you feel about all this and to have your Dad make those comments, I would have loved that of my Dad, but I had more putdowns than compliments. Every day I think about how I can help my kids do all the things they would aim for. Family is so special to me. You know that I have been through a rough time over the last 14 months, I have now started to value my life and have confidence in myself, and for that I thank you especially and the organisation for once again giving me that belief that I can achieve, it’s a good feeling after so much negative stuff. I have set myself some challenges, a couple of those with you, unfortunately I have not achieved the outcomes I wanted in February and this only makes me more determined to meet my challenges for March, and set them higher for coming months, so thanks Jordan, here’s to your success, regards Lindsay

Network marketing is the only business that I know that will keep on giving you a bigger residual income a month even if we don`t do the business for a month if we build it successfully and correctly.

This is a good story my friend. Have a great day and God bless ;)

Margaret,

Awesome story… the restaurant industry takes up too much time. Did you ever work in the restaurants??

Stick with it, and you’ll be there…

jordan March 11, 2011 at 11:44 PM

John,

Thanks John… I look forward to being on the stage at no excuses summit 3… are you going to be at #2??

jordan March 11, 2011 at 11:45 PM

Thanks Cara… yeah, I remember in the beginning I got so wrapped up in business that i never made time for family… now I make sure to make time for family.

jordan March 11, 2011 at 11:45 PM

Sherlock,

it was my earthly father… Those are all great reasons. Helping other people… love that!

jordan March 11, 2011 at 11:46 PM

You nailed that Shaun,

This industry is really about who you become along the way… I listened to the great Jim Rohn a lot, and I love his quote… “Make a million dollars, not for the money, but because of who you’ll become along the way”

jordan March 11, 2011 at 11:48 PM

You’re absolutely right Nicky… children are great motivation… even though they’re not my own, my nephews and nieces have inspired me to every end. I’m feeling a lot better thanks.

jordan March 11, 2011 at 11:48 PM

This post was really hit me, Jordan. Thank you for sharing your story. I remember just about a year ago when I first ran into your stuff online, I was moved by your story and desire to change lives.

Even with the INCREDIBLE growth you have done over the last year, if people really look back at the Jordan Schultz I met a year ago, there was NEVER a doubt in my mind that you were going to be great!

Jordan, I appreciate you as a friend, partner, and human being. You are a true example of the dream that every young entrepreneur has– working hard countless hours of the night– taking risks only a MINUTE FEW are even willing to take– making strides, even amidst incredible adversity.

Jordan, even though you have accomplish so much already… Dude– you are JUST getting started! I’m excited just thinking about how bright of a future you have, and how making the decision to RUN with you faithfully in in this of your expansion will be the most important decision of many people’s careers.

God Bless, Jordan– In me, you’ve got a friend for life!

Awesome Steve, I remember meeting you the first time in Vegas man… we were both still very wet behind the ears, and now look at where we’ve come in such a short time. It’s awesome to watch your growth as well man. You’ve really grabbed a lot of deserved attention from the entire community. Can’t wait to see you in Vegas again soon my friend.
